Keothavong raced through the opening set of her match with Estonia’s Maret Ani, winning it 6-2 in just 28 minutes.

But the world number 54 was forced to recover from 5-2 down in an epic second set, which lasted one hour and 16 minutes, before sealing victory in a tie-break.

Ani looked set to force a decider when she led 4-1 and 5-2, but lost her serve twice to allow Keothavong back into the match.

It was still not straightforward for the 25-year-old, who had to recover from 3-0 down in the tie-break to win the next seven points in a row and seal her place in the last 16.
