Anne Keothavong says she is looking forward to some good results at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple this week after being named as top seed in the $50,000 international womens event.

The British No.1 and Tennishead blogger
hadnt expected to be playing a tournament this week, but decided to make the journey to the south west after a wild card became available on Monday following the withdrawal of fellow Briton Jade Curtis because of illness.

The world No.80, who reached the third round of the US Open this summer, will take on South African Chanelle Scheepers in the first round.

I wasnt planning on playing here this week, it was all a last-minute decision, Anne told Tennishead.

I can use this week as practice but will still be looking to do well here. Training has been going well and I’m feeling good.

It’s always nice to play a tournament on home soil and it would be even better if people came down to watch and support the top British girls in action this week I’m sure there will be some good tennis going on.

Keothavong is joined in the main draw by Britons Elena Baltacha, Katie OBrien, Amanda Elliott, Yasmin Clarke,
Anna Smith and Junior Wimbledon champion Laura Robson.

The week-long tournament also features top 100 players Maret Ani, from Estonia, and Frances Severine Bremond.
