Keothavong gifted last-four berth

The British number one had breezed through the opening set, clinching it 6-0 in just 22 minutes, when her Japanese opponent called a premature end to the match because of a hamstring injury.

That meant Keothavong progressed to the last four of a WTA Tour event for only the second time in her career, after reaching the semi-finals in Kolkata in 2007.

The 25-year-old will now meet the winner of the quarter-final match between second seed Caroline Wozniacki and Elena Vesnina in the last four.
