Jozami had the best tournament of her WTA career in Bogota last season when she emerged from qualifying to reach the semi-finals of the clay event with upsets of top seed Flavia Pennetta and ninth seed Martina Muller.

Spaniard Suarez Navarro had entered the match playing some of her best tennis, coming into the event off a surprising run to the quarter-finals of last month’s Australian Open.

Jozami, ranked 134 in the world, now faces a quarter-final match with seventh-seeded Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, who downed Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-4 6-3.

Third seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina also progressed as she defeated Paraguay’s Rossana De Los Rios 5-7 6-1 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Frenchwoman Mathilde Johansson of France awaits Dulko after seeing off Hungarian qualifier Katalin Marosi 6-4 6-1.
