Jarka takes the citizenship ‘test’

Bratislava-born Jarmila Groth may have lived in Slovakia for most of her life, but after falling in love with Australia at the Aussie Open as a teenager, the 23-year-old upped sticks in 2007 and headed Down Under.

Groth, who became an Australian citizen in November 2009, clinched her first WTA title at the Landsky Lighting Guangzhou International Women’s Open on Sunday, joining Samantha Stosur as one of two Aussie women in the top 50.

But while the Gold Coast native does not have to prove her commitment to cork hats, crocodiles and all things yellow (excuse the stereotyping), Jarka – as she is known – found herself the subject of a test to prove her true allegiance to her adopted country.

Seems crikey’ unfair…
