Jankovic thumped by Kanepi

World No.3 Jelena Jankovics Dubai campaign came to an abrupt end on Wednesday when she went down 6-2, 7-5 to Estonian Kaia Kanepi in the third round.

World No.23 Kanepis reward at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships is a quarter-final meeting with Russian Elena Vesnina.

Vesnina booked her place in the last eight when her opponent on day four, 12th-seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova, quit their third round match when trailing 4-0 in the decider because of illness.

Elsewhere at the WTA Premier event seeds Venus Williams, Vera Zvonareva and Ana Ivanovic were all triumphant in third round contests.

Ivanovic moved into the last eight with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Frenchwoman Camille Pin. The Serbs next task will be against either top seed Serena Williams or Jie Zheng.

Sixth seed Venus Williams demolished tenth-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 6-3, 6-2 and will now play world No.4 Elena Dementieva in the quarter-finals. Russias Dementieva cruised past Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 6-3.

World No.5 Zvonareva enjoyed a shorter-than-expected day at the office when her opponent, Marion Bartoli, quite their match with blisters towards the end of the first set.

Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano, who put out No.2 seed Dinara Safina on Tuesday, continued her good form with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over Slovak superstar Daniela Hantuchova.
