World No.1 Jelena Jankovic admits she would love to win a grand slam title in 2009 but says enjoying her tennis is the most important thing.

The Serb is at the end of her most successful season yet which included her first grand slam final at Flushing Meadows and ended with her at the top of the WTA Tour world rankings.

Despite her achievements, though, fans and commentators have questioned whether she is worthy of pole position having never won a major.

Jankovic is well known for playing tennis with a smile on her face and while she admits shell be going for her first major trophy in 2009, having fun will also be at the top of her priorities.

“Winning [a Grand Slam] means you are top of the world for two weeks, Jankovic told reporters at Belgrade’s GEMAX tennis club as she brought her season to an official close with a news conference. But ending the season as the best player on the WTA Tour takes far more consistency and hard work.

“Of course I would love to win all four Grand Slam events by the end of my career but the most important thing is that I enjoy my tennis it means more to me than all the silverware and prizemoney I have won.”

“I definitely want to win one of the four biggest events next year but I also want to keep improving and my objective is to raise my game to a new level because it’s a lot more difficult to stay on top than to get there.

“I have achieved my childhood dream of being the world No.1 and whatever happens from now on, no one can take that away from me.
