A winner in Beijing last week, the 23-year-old Serb captured her third title of the year and eighth overall.

It marks a double celebration for Jankovic, who will also replace Serena Williams at the top of the world rankings on Monday.

Jankovic, who was set to become the new number one whatever the outcome of Sunday’s match, enjoyed an 81% first serve and converted four break points in the 83-minute match.

She beat Petrova for the fourth time in succession and improved to 6-2 all-time against the Russian.

The 26-year Petrova was seeking her second title of the year.

Despite coming up short, the Russian has still reached the semi-final stage in four of her last five tournaments.
