Ivanovic appoints Craig Kardon as new coach

Reigning French Open champion Ana Ivanovic has confirmed she has appointed a new coach.

The 21-year-old Serb, who briefly held the world No.1 spot during 2008, said on her website that she will be working with American Craig Kardon from Monday.

The duo will team up at next weeks Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships on a trial basis.

Forty-seven-year-old Kardon knows a thing or two about training champions. Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce, Jennifer Capriati and Xavier Malisse have all worked with the Texas-based guru.

Since winning her first grand slam title at Roland Garros in Paris last June, Ivanovics form has been up and down to say the least.

She lost in the third round at Wimbledon, the second round at the US Open and went out in the third round of the first major of 2009, the Aussie Open.

Im happy to begin working with Craig, said the world No.8. Were going to see how it goes in the beginning and then Ill make a decision about the longer-term.

I feel like I made good progress during the Fed Cup tie and Im not so far away from finding my old form.

Craig has a lot of experience, he encourages attacking tennis and I am hopeful we will achieve some good results together.

Scott Byrnes will continue to serve as Anas strength and conditioning coach.
