Isner wins title in Houston

Isner reached the final in Houston last year, but went one better this time around as he stunned top seed Nicolas Almagro 6-3 7-5 to get his hands on the trophy.

"I've always known I could play well on clay," Isner said. "This week is a little surprising, as Monday was the first day I hit a ball on clay since September.”

The American, who was beaten by Juan Monaco in last year's final, saw off the Argentine in the semi-finals before claiming his first win in three career meetings against Almagro to claim his sixth ATP title – his fifth on home soil.

Meanwhile, Jamie Murray tasted victory in Texas as he won the doubles event with Australian partner John Peers, upsetting top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan 1-6 7-6(3) 12-10 in the final.
