Injury scare for Djokovic as Serbia reach semis

The world No.1 rolled his ankle in the early stages of his 7-5 6-7(4) 6-1 6-0 win over Sam Querrey as he lifted the 2010 champions to an insurmountable 3-1 lead against USA in Boise, Idaho.

Djokovic, who is scheduled to return to action at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters next week, admitted he may be a doubt for his first clay court event of the season.

"Injuries are part of the sport and you try to avoid them as an athlete as much as you can," Djokovic said. "The nature of the injury is still to be determined. One hour, one hour and a half after the end of the match, all I can say is it doesn't look good. It's swollen, and when it's swollen it's definitely not a good first sign

"I'm going to do everything I can in my power to recover [for] that tournament. How realistic that is, I don't know what to tell you.

"I was just thinking of just winning this match and bringing the tie win to Serbia and I'm glad I did. On the other-hand, I'm a bit concerned it's not comfortable feeling what I feel with the ankle. If it was a normal ATP Tour event I don't know, but probably my mindset would've been different. I had a lot of motivation and it just felt logical that you do your best to finish the match. Luckily it was a win."

Serbia will meet Canada in the last four after Milos Raonic helped his nation reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time with a 3-1 win over Italy in Vancouver.

The world No. 15 sealed the tie with a 6-4 6-4 3-6 7-5 victory over Andreas Seppi after Daniel Nestor and Vask Pospisil had earned an exhausting 6-3 6-4 3-6 3-6 15-13 doubles win over  Daniele Bracciali and Fabio Fognini.

On the other half of the draw, Argentina will face defending champions Czech Republic after they beat France despite the absence of world No.7 Juan Martin del Potro. Carlos Berlocq was the hero for the Argentineans with a surprise 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4 win over Gilles Simon to clinch a 3-2 win on the clay in Buenos Aires.

In the absence of Tomas Berdych, Lukas Rosol booked Czech Republic’s place in the last four with a 7-6(5) 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 6-2 victory over Kazakhstan’s Evgeny Korolev, a result which sees the Czechs take the No.1 ranking from Spain.
