‘I was surprised at how well he is moving’ – Alexander Zverev delivers ominous Andy Murray warning


Alexander Zverev has admitted he was ‘surprised at how well Andy Murray is moving’ after losing to him at the Cincinnati Masters.

Murray is attempting resume his tennis career after major hip surgery that saw him have a metal joint put in place after years of failed attempted comebacks.

That saw him lock horns with world number seven Zverev at the Western and Southern Open – their first on-court meeting for four years.

Murray was able to defeat Zverev 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to signal he is once again able to compete against the top players in the world, and the German gave him a glowing report afterwards.

“It’s pretty good,” Zverev said said when asked what level Andy Murray is playing at.

“I was very surprised at how well he’s moving. He’s moving quite fine, quite normally.

“It was a scratchy match. I think after six months off, it’s not easy. And he played a three-setter [in the first round], which I think helped him a little bit.

“Credit to him. He fought to the end and he deserves to win.”
