‘I feel okay’ – Andy Murray keen to manage expectations after big win

Andy Murray was typically reluctant to [romise too much on the fitness front despite scoring a sognificant victory at the European Open on Friday.

The former world number one defeated Marius Copil to move into his first singles semi-final since the 2017 French Open, providing further evidence that his recovery is progressing nicely.

However, after failing to serve out the match in the second set, and wastng tiebreak match points before eventually being taken to a decider, Murray was keen to play down any grwoing excitement that he was close to being back to his best.

“It was a tough one to get through,” Murray admitted.

“I feel okay just now, but it’s more how you pull up the following day.

“The good thing about the indoor matches is that the points are fairly short so doesn’t take as much out of you as the slower courts outside.

“I feel okay, hopefully I pull up well tomorrow.”

“When you get to the end of the match, it’s always difficult to serve it out.

“I played a bad game at 5-3 in the second set and after that, he gained a lot of confidence, served extremely well and was a lot more aggressive.”

Murray will now face Ugo Humbert for a place in Sunday’s final.
