Hectic weekend looms for Schnyder

Schnyder led the Russian 4-3 in the first set when rain stopped play for the day, meaning the pair will have to finish tomorrow prior to the scheduled start of the tournament semi-finals.

Either Schnyder or Kleybanova will face Romania’s Edina Gallovits, who kept her nerve to beat Croatian qualifier Petra Martic 6-3 7-6 (8-6).

Local interest was maintained by the progression of fourth seed and local favourite Agnes Szavay, who beat her friend, the qualifier Timea Bacsinszky, 6-2 6-3.

In the last four Szavay will play sixth-seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko, who stepped up the pace in second set to beat in-form Israeli Shahar Peer 7-5 6-1.
