The top-seeded Slovakian has endured a difficult 2008 having suffered a stress fracture in her right foot this spring.

Hantuchova has struggled for form since returning from the injury, including a first-round exit at the US Open, but the 25-year-old has managed to remain in the top 15, currently holding down 11th place in the world rankings.

Yet despite an appearance in the Australian Open semi-finals, Hantuchova has not won a title so far this year and has a win-loss record of 13-7.

In her second round match in Bali, Savchuk made things interesting in the second set, going ahead 5-4 with a break of serve.

But Hantuchova rose to the challenge, breaking to tie the match at 5-5 before holding serve and finally earning another break to close it out.

“After she broke me I just tried to stay in there and break her right back, which I did,” Hantuchova said.

“I was very pleased with that, and overall I was very pleased with my game, actually. It was a good test for me and I felt like I handled the big points pretty well.”
