The world No.2 has worked with the American through the adidas Player Development Program but they will have a more formal arrangement from January.

Cahill, who has coached Andre Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt to world No.1, will be tasked with helping Halep win her first Grand Slam. The Romanian was runner-up at Roland Garros in 2014 and reached the last four Wimbledon in 2014 and the US Open this year.

“Starting January 2016, my personal coach will be Darren Cahill,” Halep confirmed on her official facebook page. “He will also keep his role as men’s tennis analyst for the Grand Slam events on the US sports network ESPN, which will not prevent him from coaching me full time.”
