You wouldnt have thought there would be any negative elements to winning back-to-back clay court titles, would you?

But when Spains Tommy Robredo collected his second trophy of the year at the Copa Telmex ATP World Tour event in Buenos Aires just over a week ago, there was one hitch a bet hed made with fellow Spaniards Santiago Ventura, Marcel Granollers and Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo.

Robredo had promised to shave his head if he won the South American clay court title and so after beating Juan Monaco in the final, it was time to keep his word.

Midway through last weeks ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, Robredo was marched to a barbers chair and could only look on helplessly while “hair stylist” Narcis Pelach, Albert Montanes’ coach, got down to business.

Just 48 hours later Robredo could have been forgiven for wondering whether all his strength had been left on the hairdressers floor.

Sporting his new close-shaven look he beat American Kevin Kim in the second round in Acapulco before his 12-match winning streak came to an end when he crashed out to Argentine Jose Acasuso.

Robredo is now considering hair extensions ahead of this weekends Spain-Serbia Davis Cup clash in Benidorm
