Great Britain face trip to Croatia

Leon Smith’s side avoided Rafael Nadal’s Spain and Roger Federer’s Switzerland but missed out on a home tie as they were drawn against Croatia, ranked No.11 in the ITF rankings.

British No.1 Andy Murray is likely to make himself available for the tie, which takes place on September 13-15.

Croatia, who are at risk of dropping out of the World Group after they lost to Italy in the first round in February, will hope to call upon world No.11 Cilic and Ivan Dodig, ranked at No.54.

Dan Evans was the hero for Britain at the weekend as Great Britain rallied from 2-0 down to claim a shock 3-2 win over Russia. However, should Murray make himself available for the tie, the world No.324 could be forced to step aside.

Evans, a controversial late substitute for Jamie Baker justified his call-up in Coventry, but he insists he would have no problem making way for Murray.

“Dropping people in any sport is hard and I’m grateful to Leon for having that difficult conversation,” Evans said. "This time it worked but next time, if I’m not playing well, then that conversation might come to me and that’s fine.”
