The British number three produced a confident performance to defeat India’s Prakash Amritraj 6-4 6-4 in the last eight.

The 23-year-old told “I played very well today against a very different player than in my previous matches because he came to the net and serve volleyed.”

He added: “I returned really well today, the best I have in this tournament. I had to because he was coming at me the whole time.”

Goodall will meet number five seed Ilia Bozoljac for a place in the final, after the Serbian came from behind to defeat Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 1-6 6-3 6-4.

American Brendan Evans and Ukrainian Sergei Bubka will meet in the other semi-final.

Elena Baltacha missed out on a place in the women’s final after losing to Maria-Elena Camerin 3-6 4-6.

After losing to the Italian number three seed, Baltacha said: “It just didn’t click for me. I don’t know what it was. I couldn’t quite get going. All my shots were going short, she was taking advantage of it and, in particular, I didn’t serve too great.

“If someone said to me before the tournament ‘you will reach the semi-finals’ I’d take it, of course I would, even if they said you’re not going to play a good match in the semis. So winning three matches is a really good confidence boost going into next week in Birmingham.”

Camerin will play Stefanie Voegele in the final after the Swiss beat top seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 6-3 4-6 7-6.
