The pair were picked after impressing GB captain John Lloyd and coach Paul Annacone in the play-offs at the National Tennis Centre in London.

They both won their opening two matches and had been scheduled to square off but Lloyd and Annacone cancelled the final play-off matches with the pair earning the right to represent Great Britain for the Europe/Africa Zone Group I clash at Braehead Arena in Renfrewshire from March 6-8.

“I spoke to the boys to give them the news,” Lloyd told the Lawn Tennis Association’s official website, www.lta.org.uk. “Paul and I thought that it would be best if the players rested as Josh and Chris had already proved themselves over their two matches. Both players produced their best tennis in fifth sets, which will give them confidence in their own ability next week.”

Goodall said: “I think we both played well this week and that’s what it was going to come down to.

“They [John and Paul] were looking at all different types of things, results and attitude, and I think both of us have shown that this week. For me, the more tennis I play, the more matches I play, the better I play.”

Eaton, who found fame after reaching the second round of Wimbledon last year, added: “When you get the chance, you have to take it. I played really well this week and I did what I had to do. We both showed we can handle the pressure when it gets tight.”

Colin Fleming and James Ward, who both won one match each in the play-offs, will join the squad to provide support.
