Goerges celebrates rain-hit win with a Mac

Julia Goerges doubled up with two match wins in one day to clinch her first WTA crown at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies in Bad Gastein on Sunday.

The 21-year-old German first defeated Alize Cornet 6-1 6-4 in their rain delayed semi-final, before cruising past Timea Bacsinszky on the Austrian clay with the same scoreline.

And to celebrate her maiden tour triumph, the 21-year-old German revealed that she plans to treat herself to a shiny new laptop.

“I’m going to buy a MacBook to celebrate,” said the world No.42. “My laptop isn’t working well anymore so I’ll give that to my coach and get a new one!”

Unseeded for the tournament, Goerges’ victory ensured her 13th win in 14 matches since her first round defeat Wimbedon to Marion Bartoli. Given her form, the 5ft11 Bad Oldesloe native was unfazed by nerves at the thought of clinching her first piece of WTA silverware.

“In the morning I told myself just to try to get to the final. It was my fifth chance and I did it,” she said. “I was so happy to be in my first final that I was really relaxed against Timea, and the crowd was so supportive too.

“I got tight on one match point but closed it out well. I’m so happy to have my first title.”

No doubt her coach Sascha Nensel will be happy with his prize of a faulty, second-hand laptop too…
