Roger Federer waves to crowd at 2020 Australian Open

‘For me, Roger Federer continues to be the greatest,’ says Toni Nadal

Roger Federer remains the greatest of all time despite Rafael Nadal equalling his Grand Slam record, says the Spaniard’s uncle.

Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic at Rolland Garros earlier this month to win his 13 title there, and 20th overall, prompting fresh debate over which of the big three can lay claim to being regarded as the greatest.

According to Toni Nadal, though, who coached Rafa for much of his career, the Swiss star still has the edge over his nephew.

“For me the best continues to be Roger Federer,” Toni Nadal said.

“He has more tournaments won, has more overall victories and more weeks at the top of the rankings – all of this counts.”

The comments follow on from Toni also claiming following the French Open final that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have a very unique advantage over Novak Djokovic in the GOAT race.

“Statistics aside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have elevated this sport to a higher category, something that others can hardly do.

“It seems right to me that both are considered the two best players in tennis history.”
