‘Federer has not set comeback date yet,’ insists coach as Swiss star battles his way back from surgery

Roger Federer has not decided on his comeback date yet, according to coach Severin Luthi, although he expects him to make the Australian Open.

Federer has been out injured for most of the year after requiring knee surgery in February, and then he went under the knife again later in the year due to ‘complications’.

He hasn’t played competitively since his 2020 Australian Open semi-final defeat to Novak Djokovic, and its still unclear as to when we will see him again.

“There is still a long way to go, and we depend on the pandemic,” Luthi said of Federer’s comeback plans.

“There have been no tournaments talks; will he play the ATP Cup or some exhibition matches before the Australian Open?

“It would not be wise to talk now about this or that playing, as that limits your planning.”

Luthi also recently reassured fans that Federer is not struggling with his training, saying: “Rehab is going as usual; there were no setbacks.

“Like everyone after surgery, Roger has his good and bad days.”
