Federer downs Del Potro in Miami

Del Potro had claimed the scalp of Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal during his comeback last year, but in his first meeting against Federer since the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals, could not convert his chances against the Swiss.

The Argentine had five break points, but Federer did not drop a service game as he clinched a 6-3 6-4 victory at Crandon Park to set up a fourth round clash with Roberto Bautista Agut.

“I felt like I was in control and I was able to generate more chances than he did,” Federer said. “I was more the aggressor. It was more on my racket, and I like it that way.”
