Federer confirms change to 2019 tournament schedule

A deep run at Wimbledon 2019 has forced a change to the Roger Federer schedule which he announced immediately after his loss to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men’s singles final

Roger Federer has decided not to play in the Rogers Cup in Montreal which stars on the 5th August and his next competitive tennis will be in Cincinnati at the Western and Southern Open which stars on the 11th August.

Federer was speaking during his post match press conference after losing to Novak Djokovic when he explained that him and his team had made the decision about a week ago. Federer said, “Looking ahead, we had decided in the team that I was to skip Montreal a week ago to give my self enough time. I wish I had more (time) but I don’t so i’m just going to take enough time off when I can and then prepare for Cincinnati”

After Cincinnati, Federer is then likely to play the US Open followed by his own tournament, the Laver Cup. You can see Roger Federer’s full 2019 tournament schedule here.

Federer lost an epic 5 set Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic after having two Championships points on his own serve. Djokovic won the match in a 5 set tie break after the pair couldn’t be separated and the set reached 12 games all. This was the first time a singles match at Wimbledon had been decided by a 5 set tie break.
