‘Exhausted’ Djokovic ready for break

Just days after defending his Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title in London with victory over Rafael Nadal, Djokovic returns to Serbia on the back of a 22-match winning streak ahead of this weekend’s Davis Cup final.

The world No.2, who has won titles in Beijing, Shanghai, Paris and London since his last defeat in the US Open final, will lead his nation against defending champions Czech Republic in Belgrade.

Djokovic’s two singles wins in Serbia’s 2010 Davis Cup victory was the catalyst for his astonishing start to 2011, when he went on a 41-match winning streak through to the French Open semi-finals.

“It’s been a very long season for me and I’m exhausted in every way,” Djokovic said. “But God knows if as a country we are going to have another opportunity, another generation like this, to win a Davis Cup title at home.

“We have very tough opponents – the defending champions – but the Davis Cup is the only team competition in our sport that brings the best possible energy and will-power in me, and I speak for my team-mates, too. I’m going to do my best to recover.”

Djokovic, who will then travel to South America for a series of exhibition events in Chile and Argentina, will then take a well-earned break ahead of the new season and the defence of his Australian Open title in Melbourne.
