Errani: It’s incredible for me

Sara Errani may have been one of the form players on clay coming into Roland Garros, but few might have expected that she would make her first Grand Slam final this year in Paris.

The 25-year-old Italian had picked up clay titles in Acapulco, Barcelona and Budapest but faltered when it came to the biggest tournaments in the run up to the second Grand Slam of the year, losing to Agnieszka Radwanska in Madrid and Sam Stosur in Rome.

But yesterday, the Italian defied even her own wildest dreams to secure a spot in her first Grand Slam final with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 win over 2010 finalist Stosur.

"It's incredible for me,” admitted Errani. “I didn't expect it, and I'm here. So I don't know what to say. I'm very happy about how I've played because I think I've played good matches. It's not finished, I have one match more. I have to think about that.”

This fortnight has seen Errani get the better of former French Open champions Ana Ivanovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova and also achieve her first ever win over a top 10 player in beating Angelique Kerber. After repeating the trick against Stosur, she’s now set to become one of the elite bunch herself.

"I don't feel like I'm top 10 but now I will be, so it's a strange sensation, “ considered the Italian. “Maybe my problem always was that I couldn't believe that I could beat the strong players.

"But now I've beaten three in a row. I'm in the final of a grand slam. So I have to maybe try to think a bit different."
