Dunlop CX 2.0 Tour racket

The Dunlop brand which was used by Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Steffi Graf and Amelie Mauresmo at the height of their careers is set to return to the top.

Following a period of review the 109 -year-old Dunlop brand, sold by Sports Direct to Sumitomo Rubber Industries in April last year, is back with a range of rackets powered by Japanese engineering.

Srixon, which is also owned by Sumitomo, has built a significant following in US and Asian markets in both golf and tennis and is set to have an increased presence in the UK. 

Kevin Anderson and Agnieszka Radwanska have been using Srixon for several years and now have Dunlop stenciling on their rackets. Britain’s Jamie Murray and Heather Watson, along with the Americans Taylor Townsend and Donald Young, have also been signed by the new brand.

So what’s so good about the new range of rackets? Chris Phillips, Dunlop’s UK marketing and sponsorship manager, said: “If a racket has Srixon technology it has the best graphite, the best features, is endorsed by pro players and is the best range that we offer.”

At the heart of what Phillips says are rackets with a more solid feel is something called “sonic core technology”. Premium silicon-based EVA material is incorporated into parts of the graphite frame to absorb impact, thereby reducing vibration and giving a softer feel as well as increasing power.
