Novak Djokovic booked a semi-final clash with Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after ending Bernard Tomic’s dream Wimbledon run.

The Serb took his foot off the gas soon after claiming the opening set, but recovered his composure against his regular practice partner to record a 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-5 triumph.

“I played quite a good first set and one terrible service game and he got back into the match,” reflected the Australian Open champio after progressing to the final four for the second straight year.

“It was quite an even match. I can’t say I played great, but you have to give him credit. He was playing some great shots, great rallies, and he made me work really hard.

“He’s been playing really well,” added Djokovic of the 18-year-old. “He’s really comfortable on court. I’m sure if he continues this way, he’s going to be a top player very soon.”

Tomic, who had never been beyond the third round of a Grand Slam before this event, took a lot of confidence from his giant killing-run.   “I’m proud of myself,” he said, before later adding: “I’ve definitely got the game, hopefully I’ll get the mental state to win a major in the next two years. I definitely think I belong with these guys.”

Djokovic, meanwhile, turned his thoughts to his impending semi-final clash with the in-form Tsonga, who conquered Federer, and admitted he will need to raise his game before facing the Frenchman.

“I hope I can perform a little bit better,” he said. “He’s been playing great on grass court season so far, winning at Queens, and now, beating top players, so he’s very dangerous.”
