Djokovic relieved to progress in Miami

The world No.1 overcame blustery conditions in Miami to claim a 6-2 6-4 victory and set up a meeting with Germany’s Tommy Haas.

"It was very difficult to kind of get into a rhythm because you couldn't really serve at 100%," Djokovic said.

"You had to go more for precision and put twice as much effort into the step adjustments because of the windy conditions. All in all, I'm just happy to get through the rough day."

In the women’s draw, Maria Sharapova defeated fellow Russian Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-2 to reach the fourth round, but Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki suffered surprise defeats to Kirsten Flipkens and Garbine Muguruza respectively.

Meanwhile Venus Williams pulled out with a back injury, handing fellow American Sloane Stephens a free pass into the last 32.
