Match of the day: Novak Djokovic v Sam Querrey

Saturday is a big day for the Americans at their home Grand Slam, starting with qualifier Nicole Gibbs’s shot at extending her run into the fourth round against Flavia Pennetta. But sandwiched between that long shot and the all-American showdown between Serena Williams and Varvara Lepchenko, Sam Querrey gets his shot at top seed Novak Djokovic.

Querrey has a win over the Serbian and pushed him hard for two sets when the pair met on Davis Cup duty last year, and even Djokovic has noted that home crowd support will play a part in the match. If the 26-year-old Californian can tap into the type of form that saw him rise to No.17 in the world in 2011, it could be a tough day at the office for the world No.1.

Look out for: Nick Kyrgios

It speaks volumes about Kyrgios’ rise – both in the rankings and in the spotlight – that his match with Tommy Robredo has been given the primetime slot on Arthur Ashe on Saturday night. The fiery Aussie teenager was certainly worth the price of admission in his first round encounter against Mikhail Youzhny, coming within one code violation of defaulting in between irresistible passages of his bombastic brand of tennis. Look away at our peril – whatever the result, it will be worth watching…
