After their exploits on the football pitch, Novak Djokovic will team up with Andy Murray in the doubles competition at the Sony Ericsson Open this week.

The pair, who both featured in a charity football match against the Miami-based Fort Lauderdale Strikers to raise funds for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami on Wednesday, are now set to join forces on the tennis court.

“We both wanted to play,” said Murray on his link-up with the world No.2. “We were talking about trying to play Indian Wells and then I said I wanted to try and play with my brother if I got the chance.”

Murray and older brother Jamie reached the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open last week, where they lost in a tight three-setter with eventual champions Alexandr Dolgopolov and Xavier Malisse, while Djokovic, along with fellow Serb Viktor Troicki, also reached the quarter-finals.

The Scot has played with the two-time Grand Slam champion before – although not since the Australian Open five years ago – and Murray believes the pair can do some damage in Miami.

“If he’s up for it as well, I think we can do well together,” said Murray. “It can be pretty beneficial to your game to play doubles.”

Murray and Djokovic face a popcorn opener against Mikhail Youzhny and Sergiy Stakhovsky in the first round, and if they negotiate the Russian-Ukranian duo, will face either Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor or Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco in round two.
