The victory was Del Potro’s fifth on the ATP Tour while it left Querrey searching for his second win following his first success at Las Vegas last year.

Del Potro made a solid start and took the first set when Querrey missed a backhand down the line. The Argentinian then broke his opponent’s service in the ninth game of the second set before holding serve to close out the match.

Del Potro became the first player in ATP World Tour history to win his first four titles in as many tournaments last season and won 23 straight matches before losing to Andy Murray in the US Open quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Martin Damm of the Czech Republic and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden won the doubles match by defeating Scott Lipsky of the United States and India’s Leander Paes 7-5 6-4.
