Davenport to play Australian Open

Davenport, the 2000 Australian Open champion, hasn’t played since the US Open in September, prompting speculation that she was preparing to devote herself full-time to her young family.

In the 2008 Australian Open, Davenport was defeated in the second round by eventual champion Maria Sharapova.

The Californian has three grand slam singled titles to her credit – the 1998 US Open, Wimbledon in 1999 and the Australian Open the following year – and captured two tour titles this year in Auckland and Florida.
