Cilic to meet Wawrinka in Chennai final

Cilic, the highest seed left in the competition following Robin Soderling’s first-round exit, thrashed Janko Tipsarevic 6-1 6-3.

It took the world number 14 84 minutes to book his place in the final for the second year in a row.

Cilic, who beat Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals last year, was surprisingly broken in the opening game by the world number 38 but the 21-year-old powered back to keep alive his bid to become only the second player to successfully defend the Chennai title after Carlos Moya.

It was a much tighter affair in the second semi-final where Wawrinka took just over two-and-a-half hours to see off Dudi Sela 6-4 2-6 7-5.

Sela saved a break point in the final game but the third seed clinched the tie at the second time of asking as he took the game 40-30.
