The Croatian world number 27, who lost to eventual champion Mikhail Youzhny in the semi-finals last year, managed to break Granollers’ serve four times in the 72-minute contest.

The 20-year-old will next face either Indian wild card Somdev Devvarman or German world number 33 Rainer Schuettler.
