Frenchman Chardy broke early and was always in control from then on as he ran out a 6-3 7-5 winner over Kiefer to reach his second ATP Tour final of the year.

Both men were playing their second matches of the day after rain forced an early end to play yesterday.

Chardy beat another German, Mischa Zverev, 7-6 (7/4) 6-1 in his quarter-final in the morning while Kiefer eased past Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot 6-2 6-1.

Romanian Hanescu, meanwhile, reached the third ATP Tour final of his career with a hard-fought 6-3 6-7 (7/4) 6-2 victory over Italy’s Fabio Fognini.

Chardy won the last meeting between the pair in Indian Wells earlier this year, with fourth seed Hanescu beating his rival on the way to his only ATP Tour title in Gstaad last season.
