Carlos Alcaraz confesses his father ‘probably’ filmed Djokovic practice session

Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that his father, Carlos Alcaraz Senior, was ‘probably’ filming Novak Djokovic’s practice session on the Wimbledon practice courts.

Alcaraz spoke about the story being labelled ‘spygate’, after it was alleged that a fan had spotted his father with a recording device pointed towards the 23-time major winner.

After beating Holger Rune 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4, to reach his first Wimbledon semi-final, Alcaraz was asked about ‘spygate’.

“Probably it is true,” revealed Alcaraz. “My father is a huge fan of tennis and he doesn’t only watch my matches.

“I think he gets into the club at 10am and leaves at 11pm watching matches and practice and being able to watch Djokovic in real life it is probably true he was filming the sessions.”

However, Alcaraz suggested that these videos were not to give him an advantage over the defending champion, “I have a lot of videos from Djokovic on every platform. I think it’s not an advantage for me.”

Djokovic has voiced his opinion on the situation, speaking about why he wants more privacy during training sessions, “Then it gives me more opportunities to try some things, to communicate more clearly with my team.

“The fact is that you are not completely relaxed in training. You know your rivals are there, you know everyone is looking over your shoulder at what’s going on, what you’re working on. Every shot is measured, evaluated and assessed.”

Both players now move onto the semi-finals taking place on Friday, with Alcaraz taking on Daniil Medvedev and Djokovic against Jannik Sinner.
