Carlos Alcaraz claims he is ‘ready to do great results on grass’

Carlos Alcaraz has increased his ‘expectations’ on grass after reaching the quarter-finals at Queen’s Club, as well as revealing the two Wimbledon champion’s that he has sourced inspiration from.

Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka, 6-2 6-3, in his second round match and spoke of how his mindset on the surface has changed, “After this match, this level, the expectations change. I think I’m ready to do great results here on grass.”

The Spaniard continued, “Playing my first quarter-final here, I’m going to enjoy it. I’m enjoying every single second here, and of course I will go into the next round with a lot of confidence and I will go for it. Playing these kind of matches, the level that I played – I’m ok with that.”

“I feel really comfortable here on grass so I’m really happy getting experience on grass, getting hours. Knowing that I have this level, I’m really happy about it.”

Alcaraz has emphasised the importance of movement on grass, revealing that he has watched videos of Roger Federer and Andy Murray to source inspiration, but chooses not to watch seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.

“I’ve always said that you have to move well on grass and from there everything else follows,” said Alcaraz. “Speaking for myself, I like to put on videos of Federer, of Murray, who are among the players that move best on grass. I’m not going to talk about Djokovic because he slides like he’s on clay and that’s not going to be the case for me.”

The US Open champion added, “It’s not about how they strike the ball, because everyone has their own style, but seeing how they move, and trying to imitate them.”

Alcaraz now plays 2014 Queen’s champion and Wimbledon semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov in his quarter-final match later today, as he bids to move closer to his first title on grass and regaining the No.1 ranking once again.

Despite his incredible success over the past couple of years, Alcaraz still does not have much pedigree on the grass courts and his match at the Queen’s Club yesterday was his first that was not at Wimbledon.
