Calleri ousts Massu

Massu finished runner-up at his home town tournament in 2006 and 2007 but after falling at the first hurdle to Sergio Roitman in 2008, he suffered the same fate on the clay of Vina del Mar against fellow Argentinian Calleri.
Calleri will next face compatriot Sebastian Decoud after the latter topped Italy’s Fabio Bognini in straight sets 6-3 7-5.
In other action, Maximo Gonzalez cruised past fellow qualifier Boris Pashanski in straight sets 6-3 6-2.
Another Argentinian, Gonzalez advances to face defending champion and top seed Fernando Gonzalez, who received a first-round bye.
Qualifier Pablo Cuevas beat Nicolas Lapentti 6-3 3-6 7-5, Brian Dabul overcame Diego Junqeira 6-2 6-7 (2/7) 6-1 and Thomaz Bellucci defeated Juan Pablo Brzezicki 6-2 6-3.
