Boris Becker sheds light on Zverev split from coach Lendl: “Then something broke…”

German tennis great and close confidant of Alexander Zverev, Boris Becker, has revealed more information about the reasons behind the young stars split from his well respected coach Ivan Lendl

The breaking news around Alexander Zverev is that he has parted company with his coach Ivan Lendl after a one year spell together in which the young German star managed to win the ATP World Tour Finals but has subsequently struggled to hit the heights of his 2018 season.

In a press conference during the Hamburg Open this week, German tennis champion Boris Becker, who’s known to be close with Zverev, said that there may have been other factors influencing their relationship that ultimately lead to the break up. Becker mentioned the situation with Zverev and the legal battle with his now ex-agent Patricia Apey as a contributing factor.

He is quoted as saying, “They [Zverev and Lendl] won the Tour finals, and then something broke between them. I’m not going into details, but something happened, and it had something to do with Apey.”

Zverev plays in the quarter finals of the Hamburg Open today where he faces Filip Krajinovic and if succesful he would take on either Jeremy Chardy or Nikoloz Basiliashvili in the semi final.
