Bondarenko, who defeated former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova in her quarter-final, swept into a 5-1 lead in the first set.

A rain break gave Keothavong a brief respite but it did not last long and even though she put up more a fight in the second set, the Ukrainian was ultimately too strong.

In the other semi-final, Romanian teenager Alexandra Dulgheru defeated Daniela Hantuchova 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 6-1 in nearly two and a half hours.
