Ranked 34th in the world, Benesova is looking to capture her second Acapulco title in five years.

In the lone upset of the day, Italian Roberta Vinci bounced sixth-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova 6-4 6-4, while seventh-seeded Tathiana Garbin of Italy outlasted American Jill Craybas, 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 6-3.

In other matches, Czech Petra Cetkovska defeated Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-2 6-2, Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier toppled Mexican Sandoval Melissa Torres 6-2 6-3 and Czech Klara Zakopalova saw off Frenchwoman Emilie Loit 4-6 6-4 7-5.
