Bammer, who was arguably the fresher of the two after enjoying an easier win in the rain-delayed semi-finals earlier in the day, saw off the Italian 7-6 (7/4) 6-2.

Schiavone needed two hours and 30 minutes on court to overcome Timea Bacsinszky 6-2 4-6 7-5 while Bammer cruised past Iveta Benesova 6-0 7-5.

And it showed as Bammer broke twice for a 4-0 lead in the first set.

Schiavone hit back to take it to a tie-break but Bammer prevailed.

Going behind seemed to deflate the Italian and the second set was a procession.
