The second seed from Belarus dominated her sixth career final and won 73% of her first serve points while capturing four breaks from five opportunities to seal the win in 71 minutes.

The 19-year-old had reached four finals over her previous two seasons but did not breakthrough until she won the Australian Open warm-up in Brisbane in January.

After a disappointing showing in Melbourne where she was forced to retire from her fourth round match against eventual champion Serena Williams due to heat related issues, Azarenka rebounded in Memphis en route to improving to 13-1 this season.

Azarenka did not drop a set in her first three matches before topping sixth seed Sabine Lisicki in three sets in her semi-final.

Wozniacki, 18, was looking for her fourth career title in her first final of the year.

The Dane had beaten Azarenka in the only previous meeting, a straight-sets win in the third round of last year’s US Open.
