It was another hot one in Melbourne on Thursday (and, yes, its still raining in Wimbledon) so the womens semi-finals took place under a roof on the Rod Laver Arena.

After victories for Serena over Elena and Dinara over Vera (both against the form book), the debate over whether closing the roof changes the playing conditions was re-ignited some argue it turns the Open into an indoor slam.

Later in the day, tournament chiefs decided to open the roof for the night session as the first mens semi between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick took to the Rod Laver Arena.

But with Fed having just finished off Roddick in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, 7-5, it seems even Melbournes night air cant reduce the temperature of the Swiss superstars red hot form right now.

Should Rafael Nadal get past Fernando Verdasco in the top half of the draw on Friday, will even the great Rafa be able to stop Roger collecting his 14th Grand Slam title this weekend…

The great Rocket Rod Laver doesn’t think so, and he knows a thiing or two about winning Grand Slams.
