ATP Finals Preview: Alexander Zverev


Alexander Zverev will look to win his second ATP Finals title in four appearances after another impressive year on tour. 

The World No 7 started the year in promising fashion at the Australian Open as he defeated Andrey Rublev and and Stan Wawrinka before losing to Dominic Thiem in the semi-finals.

Following the lockdown, Alexander Zverev lost to Andy Murray in Cincinnati in the the main precursor to the US Open. However, the German responded emphatically to reach his first ever major final, losing to Dominic Thiem for the second Slam in succession despite earning himself a two-set lead.

Following his impressive run at the US Open, the World No 7 lost in disappointing fashion to Janik Sinner in four sets in the fourth round of Roland Garros before complaining of an illness prior to and during his match against the Italian.

On his return to the hard courts, Zverev has enjoyed success winning both of the Cologne events and dropping just three sets in the process. The German also enjoyed an impressive run at the Paris Masters in his last tournament prior to the ATP Finals reaching the final before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

Zverev won the ATP Finals in 2018 after beating Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the title, before reaching the semi-final stage in last year’s edition.
