Andy Murray to play singles in Cincinnati

In the past few minutes the tournament organisers have confirmed that Andy Murray has taken a wild card into the mens’ singles at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati starting on Monday

Andy Murray hasn’t played a competitive singles match since the Australian Open in January 2019 when he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in 5 sets. After that match he admitted in a tearful press conference that he might never play again

Fast forward 8 months and following a life changing hip surgery Murray will achieve something that even he thought might be impossible.

The hip surgery, which tennishead reported on in detail earlier this year, was succesful and allowed Murray to start practising again.

He then entered the Men’s Doubles at Queen’s with Feliciano Lopez which they won. Murray also played the Men’s and Mixed Doubles at Wimbledon and the Men’s doubles in Washington last week.

He’s also been seen practising his singles on numerous occasions but has repeatedly said that he thought he was a long way of returning to singles.
