Andy Murray smiles in Cincinnati

Andy Murray loses again on comeback trail but says he “will be winning matches each week”

Andy Murray has yet to win on his comeback to singles proving how tough the ATP Tour is, but he’s confident that he can start winning soon

Last night saw another loss for Britain’s greatest ever tennis player, Andy Murray, as he went down fighting in two close sets to American Tennys Sandgren at the Winston Salem Open.

Speaking after the match to the BBC Murray sounded confident and not at all disheartened by another loss. He said when asked about playing another singles tournament next week, “I think for my body it would be a good thing because I do feel at that level I will be winning matches each week,”

Murray has the opportunity to play in a lower level challenger event whilst the US Open is on next week. This would allow him to play matches against lower ranked players in Majorca at the Nadal Challenger. This would also mean he can continue playing outdoors on hard courts which are the same conditions as the next main ATP Tour events he is scheduled to play in Asia in the coming weeks.

Since returning to competitive tennis Murray has played mainly doubles where he won a title on his first outing at the Queen’s Club with Spanish friend Feliciano Lopez but in the past weeks his focus has moved to singles once he was sure that his hip and fitness would allow it.
