Andy Murray and Serena Williams progress against 14th seeds to reach Wimbledon mixed doubles third round

Andy Murray and Serena Williams have entertained Centre Court crowds again today, as they battled to a 7-5 6-3 victory against 14th seeds Fabrice Martin of France, and Raquel Atawo.

Playing their first ever mixed doubles together, they are now into the third round of the draw, where they will face number one seeds Bruno Soares of Brazil and Nicole Melichar of America.

Having played a tough three setter against Alison Riske earlier today, Serena Williams did not seem to be fatigued in her second match of the day, as all four pairs held serves comfortably at the start of the first set. On the Atawo serve though at 4-3 up, Murray and Williams lost the chance to go a break of serve ahead. They lost three break points after some fantastic net play from 32 year old Fabrice Martin. And on the nex time of asking at 5-4, the break point was now a set point. But again the Scot and American were unable to convert.

With nine Wimbledon singles titles between them, Andy Murray and Serena Williams eventually got the break at 6-5 after two sensational cross court winners from Williams, one from the forehand and one from the backhand both out of the reach of a towering Martin. The break saw the crowd favourites take the set 7-5.

Both pairs were put under pressure on serve early on in the second set. Murray had to save two break points in the first game, before he and Williams won their fifth break point of the next game to surge ahead 2-0.

Successful holds of serve from all players saw the third set to 5-3, giving Murray the chance to serve the match out. A smash from Williams set up two match points for the pairing, and Murray took the first with an ace.

The number one seeds are next up in another match destine for Centre Court
